Steven Johnson has written an interesting essay on The Daily Us in Discovery and here's a comment I made at his weblog:
By indexing the pages in Open Directory to see the most common words in each category you'd have something to match weblogs against.
For example take the Breaking News list, make a list of common words for each document in the list, match every common-word-list against the common words in each Open Directory category and you get Breaking News divided into categories which is one step closer to the Daily Us. How about that:-)
